Musée Marmottan-Claude Monet

This excellent museum is located in a 19th-century mansion, and contains numerous works by Monet and other impressionists. Paintings by other artists include Pissarro, Renoir, Gauguin and Sisley.

Formerly the hunting lodge of Christophe Edmond Kellermann, Duke of Valmy, the Marmottan Monet Museum was bought in 1882 by Jules Marmottan. His son Paul made it his home and extended it to show the Napoleonic paintings, furnishings and bronzes he collected in the course of his life.

The Museum possesses the world's largest collection of works by Claude Monet. Housed in a specially built exhibition hall, this collection offers the public a unique opportunity to see major works from the various stages of the master's career and thus follow the development of his technique.

Impressionist and post-impressionist collections of the Musée Marmottan constitute a very complete and representative group of works of these artistic movements. It counts more than three hundred works of art, including paintings, pastels, watercolours, and sculptures.
