The Le Grand opened in 1862 to welcome travellers to the international exhibition and is now registered as a historic monument. Thanks to its location within a few minutes' walk of major attractions, fabulous shopping and the business district of Paris, it is a luxurious base for leisure and business guests. Novelist Sir Arthur Conan Doyle used to correct his Sherlock Holmes proofs while sitting in the café, and Victor Hugo used to hold banquets in the salons, which have been restored to their original Napoleon III style and are still available for banquets, conferences and gala dinners.
