Hotel description The Le Grand opened in 1862 to welcome travellers to the international exhibition and is now registered as a historic monument. Thanks to its location within a few minutes' walk of major attractions, fabulous shopping and the business district of Paris, it is a luxurious base for leisure and business guests. Novelist Sir Arthur Conan Doyle used to correct his Sherlock Holmes proofs while sitting in the café, and Victor Hugo used to hold banquets in the salons, which have been restored to their original Napoleon III style and are still available for banquets, conferences and gala dinners. The stunning Salon Opéra, the most famous ballroom in Paris, is a favourite venue for haute couture fashion shows by France's premier designers, such as Laroche, Yves Saint Laurent and Lacroix.
The 398 guest rooms and 72 suites have amazing views and are decorated in Napoleon III-style, complete with luxurious marble bathrooms. The air-conditioned accommodation has double glazing, modem, direct-dial telephones and satellite TV. La Verrière restaurant, overlooking the hotel's winter garden, serves lunch and English tea with fresh scones, pastries and sandwiches. There's also a light and airy glass-roofed bar and lounge in the lobby for relaxing. The hotel's famous Brasserie Café de la Paix has the largest summer terrace in Paris, serves both classic and both classic and innovative dishes, and is known for the quality of its seafood and oysters. After enjoying the varied sights of the city, you can re-charge your batteries in the new Health Club and Spa, which offer a wide variety of facilities and treatments.
